Learn about the importance of water to healthy living at Missouri American Water’s interactive booth for adults and kids. If you join the 5K run, you’ll see our employees handing out water along the way. May 7 Green Solutions for Clean Water Symposium, University of Missouri, St. Louis. A day of learning about best practices to protect our water resources sponsored by St. Louis Earth Day, Confluence Greenway, Missouri Department of Conservation, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Des Lee Collaborative Vision and University of Missouri—St. Louis and Missouri American Water. Annual Better Drinking Water Week Poster Contests at South Middle School in Joplin and Robidoux Middle School in Saint Joseph. Students put artistic talent to the test displaying colorful depictions of water conservation, pollution prevention and the water cycle. Winners are chosen and awarded prizes provided by the local districts as part of the Education Business Partnership Program. July 2 Joplin Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Nature Center First Annual Water Fest. The Nature Center will have a fun-filled day of water activities that will also serve as education on water conservation, source water protection and where water comes from. Local Missouri American Employees will be on hand with demonstrations of the water treatment process using a scale model treatment plant. September Warrensburg American Heart Association Annual Heart Walk. Missouri American Water local employees participate by providing thirsty walk participants and their pets with cold, refreshing tap water and water bottles. 12 -13 Confluence Clean-up and Learning Festival, Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area, Florissant, MO. Missouri American Water joins Missouri River Relief and other conservation organizations for a riverside education event with hundreds of Hazelwood and St. Louis area students. After the event is a clean-up at the confluence of two of our nation’s biggest rivers. October National Theatre for Children performance sign-ups begin this month. These free interactive theatre performances are available to schools in our service areas. The shows teach the value of water and the importance of protecting and conserving this precious resource. School performances are scheduled for January – April of each year. Missouri American Water High School Water Quality Research Award sign-up begins this month. The awards, sponsored through the University of Mo. Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Program, recognize top high school research with certificates and cash awards to the student and his/her teacher.
