Billing & Payment Information

As a customer of New Jersey American Water, providing you with the best customer service possible is our priority. In New Jersey, we offer several easy ways to pay your bill:

Pay by Mail
For customers with an account number beginning with 52, mail your check payable to:

To avoid processing delays, include the pre-addressed payment stub, write your account number and address on your check or money order, use the envelope provided and do not send paper clips, staples or cash.

Pay by Phone
If you do not have questions about your bill, you can pay-by-phone using your Visa or MasterCard by calling 1.866.271.5522. There is a small fee for this service. Be sure to have your 10-digit account number handy. This is located on the upper right corner of your current bill.

Pay Automatically – No stamps required
Sign up for Automatic Payment, and your bill will be paid on time, every time, directly from your checking or savings account on the date it is due. You'll still receive a copy of your bill well before the due date, so you will have time to ask any questions before payment. And it's totally free! Call our Customer Service Center to sign up, or complete and mail the enrollment form.

Online Bill Pay
You can use your Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards to pay your bill online. For more information, visit: www.paymybill.com

Pay in Person
New Jersey American Water has agreements with merchants across the state where you can pay your bill in person. These locations include supermarkets and drug stores. Please note, this list changes periodically. Customers are encouraged to call the location first, to ensure they still accept payments for New Jersey American Water.

Payment Assistance
Sometimes customers face circumstances that stretch their financial resources. We are here to assist. Our customer service representatives will work with you on a plan to pay the balance of the bill over time. You may also be qualified to receive assistance through our H2O Help to Others Program. 

H20 Help to Others Program

Although our lives depend on an ample supply of tap water, many of us take water for granted. Unfortunately, there are many people and families who risk losing water service because they can’t pay their water bills. For customers who have fallen on difficult financial times, American Water’s H20 Help to Others Program has been providing assistance for over a decade to those who qualify in participating states.

H20 Help to Others Program takes a three-fold approach to assistance. Hardship grants, monthly service discounts and complimentary water-saving devices and education to change water use habits all combine to create a program that has helped thousands of families since it was founded in 1991.

Another benefit of H20 Help to Others Program is that if often connects customers with other sources of aid in their communities, including other assistance programs for which they might qualify. Typically, those who qualify for the program are able to begin paying their water and other utility bills in a timely manner, start meeting other financial obligations, and work toward self-sufficiency.

Payment Arrangements
If you cannot pay your bill by the due date, please contact our customer service center BEFORE the due date. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-652-6987.
When you call, our customer service representatives will work with you on a plan to pay the balance of the bill over time. These payment arrangements require you to:

• Pay at least 25% of your bill within 48 hours of your call.
• Pay the rest of the bill, including any applicable late payment charge according to an agreed upon schedule, not to exceed 6 months.
• Pay all future bills as they become due.

New Jersey American Water will create these payment arrangements only with customers who have not broken a similar agreement with us in the past twelve months.
